About

Welcome to The Avalon Academy

The Avalon Academy empowers students with complex communications needs and movement disorders through individualized, interdisciplinary education fostering growth, independence, and inclusion.

Our Story

In 2005, frustrated by the lack of educational and therapeutic opportunities for their sons with cerebal palsy, Annie Noonan and Lynette Mullens teamed up with Kinga Czegeni, a special education teacher and movement-based therapist, to found the Avalon Academy, a school to address all areas of need for children with movement disorders.

Twenty years later, this founding vision remains. The Avalon Academy offers a comprehensive program for students between 5 to 22 years old. A team of special education teachers and therapists provides developmental support for communication, academics, motor-skill use, social and emotional interaction as well as recreation.

The students thrive in every aspect of their lives, and families can have peace of mind knowing their children are being nurtured by professionals who are not only knowledgeable but compassionate.

Career and Volunteer Opportunities

“From the moment we first toured Avalon we knew it was the right place—really, the only place—for our very exceptional little girl. As my husband said, it’s not the particular characteristics or services at Avalon that matter, it’s the whole picture. From the moment she arrives in the morning to the moment she leaves for home, our child is understood, connected with, nurtured, and educated in a way that exactly fits who she is and what she needs. It’s meant the world to our family knowing that our child is in such a safe and nurturing place. We can’t imagine her anywhere else but would trust Avalon’s program and staff to the ends of the earth!”
